As part of our literacy work, we participate in Massachusetts Children's Book Award. Each year, a master list of books get nominated for this award and students from grades 4, 5, and 6 are the ones who vote for the winner. Build your vocabulary and help end hunger!
Help end hunger and build your vocabulary! NewsELA has articles on thousands of topics. Remember that you can adjust the reading level so that the article is "just right" for you. Before you read, take a minute to ORIENT yourself to the text and think about what you already know (or think you know) about the topic.
While you read, keep track of the questions that come up for you as well as new learning and vocabulary. After you read, summarize the article: "The main idea is that. . . These are the supportive details." Consider whether the writer had a specific point of view or bias. |
